The University of Canberra Students' Association Inc was born out of agitation by students for a representative body, almost from the opening day of the Canberra College of Advanced Education.
A 1969 council meeting recorded that it would support the formation of a representative body for students, and since then the Students' Association has been promoting and defending the rights of University of Canberra Students.
The Students' Association in 1998 determined to change structure, and became an incorporated association.
Over time the services and facilities offered by the Students' Association have changed, but fundamentally the goal of representing the interests of students have remaind the same.
The introduction of VSU in 2006 saw mass redundancies of staff and the scaling back of facilities, and the closure of services to non members, however subsequent agreements with the university had returned the Students' Association to servicing all students of the university by 2008.
2008 saw the largest expansion of operations of the Students' Association in it's history, with the aquisition of management of Arscott House, a 216 room university residence.
